Nursery Procedures
Here are some of our key policies and procedures we have in place at Little Treasures:
- Sickness
- If your child is suffering a doubtful rash, sticky eyes, they must not attend nursery unless you have written consent from your doctor stating that they are fit to attend nursery. If your child had diarrhoea, they should not attend nursery for a further 24 hours after the symptoms have stopped. If your child becomes unwell at nursery you will be contacted to discuss appropriate arrangements for collection. Whilst waiting for your child to be collected staff will ensure they are made as comfortable as possible.
- Medication
- Parents/carers must complete a medicine slip to allow staff to administer your child's medicine accordingly. Staff will check the details on the medicine bottle to ensure the correct dosage and medication are administered. Staff must sign the medicine slip to say they have administered the medication. The slip must be completed on a daily basis.
- Accidents and Emergencies
- The nursery staff will ensure that the accident is dealt with in a safe and calm manner. A first aider and supervisor will deal with the accident and assess what treatment is required. The first aider and supervisor will decide if medical treatment is required, if so the first aider will arrange for the child to be removed for medical treatment and the supervisor will contact the child's parents to collect the child or meet them at the hospital. All accidents will be recorded on an accident sheet, which parents will be asked to sign ensuring they are made aware of any accidents before they leave the establishment.
- Equal Opportunities
- Little Treasures Nursery is an equal opportunities establishment and will not tolerate any form of discrimination. We actively promote the development of positive attitudes towards the many cultures and groups which make up our society. We promote the learning of cultural and religious festivals via the national curriculum, and allow children the opportunity to learn about different disabilities.
- Special Needs
- Our nursery welcomes all children. The nursery is fitted with a disabled toilet and has a ramp for easy access to and from the nursery.
- Collection
- Little Treasures will not allow your child to be taken from the grounds of the nursery without your authorisation, as it is our responsibility to ensure children are released into the care of an appropriate adult. Staff should be informed if you have made arrangements for your child to be collected by anyone other than yourselves. Your child will not be allowed to leave with anyone under the age of 16(i.e. bothers/sisters etc). We will not allow your child to leave with anyone who appears under the influence of drink or drugs. If you do not arrive to collect your child we will try and contact the emergency contact on your child's enrolment form to collect your child. After a period of one and a half hours the social work will be contacted to collect your child. At all times two members of staff be present with your child.

- Planning
- Each child is allocated a key worker when starting nursery who is responsible for the development of that child throughout their time at nursery. Staff will plan using both the curriculum for excellence guidelines as well as the birth to three document for all two year old, whilst taking into account the curriculum for excellence. Children's achievements will be recorded within their individual profiles which are available for parents to view at any time.
- Clothing
- As we are all aware children have the best fun whilst participating in messy activities, we will try our best to ensure children wear appropriate aprons, however accidents do happen therefore we advise you not to wear brand new clothes. We also ask parents to provide their child with a hat, scarf, gloves and wellies to allow your child to play outdoors when the weather is wet and cold.
- The nursery does provide a sunhat for your child, however we would ask all parents to provide a bottle of sun cream for their child as well as sign a consent form allowing us to apply sun cream, as we need to be made aware if your child may have sensitive skin or allergies.
- Tooth Brushing
- Little Treasures work in partnership with our local health services and have an oral health educator who visit's the nursery on a monthly basis to promote the importance of tooth brushing. With your consent your child will be provided with a toothbrush, which allows them to brush their teeth in nursery on a daily basis.
- Snack
- Morning and afternoon snack is provided for all children with a selection of fruit, cereal and hot toast available. Parents are asked to provide a packed lunch for their own child. Water and milk are available for children throughout the day.
