Nursery Procedures

Here are some of our key policies and procedures we have in place at Little Treasures:

  • Sickness
    • If your child has vomiting or diarrhoea they should not attend the nursery for a further 48 hours from the point when their symptoms have stopped. If your child becomes unwell at nursery or has a temperature of 37.5C or above you will be contacted to discuss appropriate arrangements for collection. Whilst waiting for your child to be collected staff will ensure they are made as comfortable as possible.
  • Medication
    • Parents/carers must complete a medicine slip to allow staff to administer your child's medicine accordingly. Staff will check the details on the medicine bottle to ensure the correct dosage and medication are administered. Please note all medicines must be brought to the nursery in their original containers and with the medicine information leaflet enclosed. If the bottle is a new bottle then it must be opened and the first dose administered by the parent/carer before entering nursery. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in staff being unable to administer the medicine. Medicine slips will be signed by both the member of staff administering the medicine and the member of staff witnessing the administration. On collection of their child parents/carers will sign the medicine slip to state the medicine has been returned to them before being filed accordingly. Medicine slips are required to be completed on a daily basis.
  • Accidents and Emergencies
    • The nursery staff will ensure that the accident is dealt with in a safe and calm manner. A first aider will deal with the accident and assess what treatment is required. The first aider will decide if medical treatment is required, if so the first aider will arrange for the child to be removed for medical treatment and a member of staff will contact the child's parents to collect the child or meet them at the hospital. The most senior member of staff will attend the hospital with the child. All accidents will be recorded on an accident sheet, which parents will be asked to sign ensuring they are made aware of any accidents before they leave the establishment.
  • Equal Opportunities
    • Little Treasures Nursery is an equal opportunities establishment and will not tolerate any form of discrimination. We actively promote the development of positive attitudes towards the many cultures and groups which make up our society. We promote the learning of cultural and religious festivals via the national curriculum, and allow children the opportunity to learn about different support needs others may have.
  • Additional Support Needs
    • Our nursery welcomes all children. The nursery is fitted with a disabled toilet and has a ramp for easy access to and from the nursery.
  • Collection
    • Little Treasures will not allow your child to be taken from the grounds of the nursery without your authorisation, as it is our responsibility to ensure children are released into the care of an appropriate adult. Staff should be informed if you have made arrangements for your child to be collected by anyone other than yourselves. Your child will not be allowed to leave with anyone under the age of 16 (i.e. brothers/sisters etc). We will not allow your child to leave with anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you do not arrive to collect your child we will try and contact the emergency contact on your child's enrolment form to collect your child. After a period of one and a half hours the social work will be contacted to collect your child. At all times two members of staff be present with your child.
  • Planning
    • Each child is allocated a key worker when starting nursery who is responsible for the development of that child throughout their time at nursery. Staff will plan using both the curriculum for excellence and pre-birth to three documents taking into account the children's individual learning needs. Children's achievements will be recorded within their individual profiles which are available for parents to view at any time.
  • Clothing
    • As we are all aware children have the best fun whilst participating in messy activities, we will try our best to ensure children wear appropriate aprons, however accidents do happen therefore we advise you not to wear brand new clothes. We also ask parents to provide their child with a hat, scarf, gloves and wellies to allow your child to play outdoors in all weather.
    • The nursery does provide a sunhat for your child, however we would ask all parents to provide a bottle of sun cream SPF 40+ for their child as well as sign a consent form allowing us to apply the sun cream, as we need to be made aware if your child may have sensitive skin or allergies.
  • Tooth Brushing
    • Little Treasures work in partnership with our local health services and have an Oral Health Educator who visit's the nursery on a regular basis to promote the importance of oral hygiene. With your consent your child will be provided with a toothbrush, which allows them to brush their teeth in nursery on a daily basis.
  • Snack
    • In accordance with NHS Lanarkshire's Nutrition and Oral Health Guidelines, a variety of healthy snacks including fruit are available to all children during both morning and afternoon snack times. Parents are asked to provide a packed lunch for their own child. Water and milk are available for children throughout the day.
  • Arrivals and Departures
    • For legal purposes parents and carers should adhere to the nurseries opening and closing hours. Parents who are regularly late will be charged an extra hour to cover staff costs outwith nursery opening hours.
